On March 9th, it was learned from Sandvik Tools that the company had an agreement with US private equity firm Littlejohn to acquire Diamond Innovations, formerly known as GE's superhard abrasives division, and expects the entire acquisition. Work will be completed in the first quarter of 2007.
DI Company of the United States is the world's leading developer and manufacturer of synthetic diamond and cubic boron nitride products for industrial applications such as machining, oil and gas drilling, grinding, rock drilling and wire drawing. The company employs approximately 600 people and has annual sales of more than one billion Swedish kronor (approximately $1.42 billion). The company's headquarters and largest manufacturing facilities are located in Worthington, Ohio, USA, and also in Florida, Ireland and Hong Kong. DI has a strong worldwide sales network with products sold in the Americas, Europe and Asia, and sales in the above three regions are basically equal.
It is understood that with the rapid development of technology, people are constantly putting forward higher requirements for the performance of cutting tools. The acquisition of DI will provide a good basis for Sandvik to open up the market and help to better promote diamond and cubic boron nitride products for metal processing.
“Based on advanced materials technology, Sandvik is currently the world leader in high-end applications. Diamond and cubic boron nitride are the hardest substances in the world known to man, thus providing the perfect solution for high wear resistance. The acquisition has improved our supply capacity in areas with strong demand growth, and our goal is to continue to develop existing businesses,” said Anders Thelin, president of Sandvik Tools. “It will also help us further develop new solutions. Especially in the mining and construction sector."
DI CEO Tanya Fratto will continue to serve as the team's CEO and will work with the Sandvik team to achieve a smooth transition for employees, customers and suppliers.
“The entire DI team is excited about the company's ownership transformation and will fully support Sandvik's development strategy to continue to promote this business,” Tanya Fratto said. “We will continue to promote product innovation and customer service.”
