Analysis of the durability of stone

Stone has a high status in decorative materials, but also has irreplaceable decorative features. It is commonly used on the “face” of buildings. Therefore, the owners all hope that the stone and buildings have the same vitality. The stone with good durability can not only ensure the exterior appearance of the building, but also prolong the period of building renovation. Therefore, when stone materials are used as exterior materials, floor materials, and hall interior decoration materials, the following aspects must be examined:

1, physical properties. The stone must be able to withstand many external forces including gravity, wind passengers, vibration, temperature changes, wear, load, and so on. This requires all kinds of stone to be high strength, particularly high stone installation.

2, chemical properties. Stones must be quite resistant to weathering, hydration, dissolution, dehydration, acidification, reduction, and chemical attack such as carbonates. To do this must make the stone waterproof.

3, structural strength. When selecting directional stones such as slate and shale, attention must be paid to structural strength in different directions.

4, water absorption. When the stone is mined at the end, the molecular structure is relatively stable, but when exposed to the atmosphere, poor coordination between the minerals inside the stone occurs. For example, the limestone dissolves on the surface to form calcium, which causes sandstone to collapse. Therefore, when selecting a stone, we should try to choose a stone with uniform pore distribution, small pore size, and low water absorption.
