“Some crops have been implanted with insect-resistant genes to produce specific proteins that specifically destroy the gut lumens of specific pests. In humans and other non-target organisms, there are no targets that bind to insect-resistant genes, and as a result, genes that are proteins After the human body is eventually degraded, it will not harm the human body.” Lu Baorong explained.

Lu Baorong believes that there is no absolute security in the world, and there is a certain risk in everything. Genetically modified foods are also the same, but risks are different from dangers. China adopts three methods of risk assessment, risk management, and risk communication to control and control genetically modified technology and minimize its risk.

“What makes me curious is that the public is too panicky about transgenes, but they don’t care about pesticides.” Lu Baorong said that for rice that has been transferred to the Bt insect-resistant gene, it has never been reported negatively since it was eaten, and each year in the world The accidents caused by the accidental consumption of pesticides occur from time to time.

In environmental safety, the advantages of GM technology are also obvious. In the past, people used pesticides to cope with biological stresses such as disease and insects. At the same time, the original ecological balance was broken. Eventually, pests produced resistance to pesticides and the original ecosystem collapsed. The transgenic technology is targeted, under the premise of reasonable management, the genetically modified crops generally do not have a negative effect on the environment and ecology after extensive planting, and the genetic pollution of similar crops and other wild relatives is also relatively small.

"Compared with general foods, genetically modified foods that have been approved for listing are the same in terms of safety except for the genes themselves. Our country's laws mandate that any genetically modified food must be clearly identified on the outer packaging so that consumers can choose freely.
