Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has decided to pilot methanol cars in Shanxi Province, Shanghai Municipality and Shaanxi Province. The promotion of methanol gasoline has been raised to the national level for the first time. People in the industry believe that the acceleration of the promotion of methanol gasoline can alleviate the contradiction of overcapacity to some extent, which is a good thing for the industry in the long run.

Methanol is commonly known as "wood alcohol" or "wood essence." The use of methanol instead of petroleum fuel has been used for many years in foreign countries. At present, there are more than 70 countries in the world, and methanol automobiles have been used to varying degrees, and some have reached large-scale promotion.

On July 2, 2009, the National Standardization Administration issued an announcement stating that the “Methanol Gasoline for Vehicles (M85)” standard was officially approved and promulgated, and will be implemented on December 1. This standard is the first product standard for methanol gasoline. The formal promulgation of this standard has also accelerated the use of methanol gasoline.

Methanol gasoline is increasingly favored by people. Apart from being stimulated and promoted by rising crude oil prices, it also has many irreplaceable advantages of other energy sources:

On the one hand, methanol is rich in resources and can be regenerated, which belongs to the energy source of biomass; on the other hand, since methanol contains oxygen atoms, the use of methanol in automobiles can increase the octane number of fuel, increase the oxygen content, and make the car cylinder burn. More complete, so as to reduce the exhaust emissions of toxic substances, protect the atmosphere.
